Ålsrode Smede- & Maskinfabrik offers fibre laser cutting using a Prima Laser Genius 2040. The advantages of this cutting method are accuracy, speed, limited heat stress and automatic feed of material, with no scratches to the surface.
The laser cutter consists of two main modules: the high storage bay and the laser chamber. The automated high storage bay has 15 cassettes with space for 2000 x 4000 mm sheet sizes with a thickness of up to 25 mm.
The machine is CNC-controlled and cuts workpieces from (thin) sheets using laser beams. The machine can cut materials such as ordinary steel, stainless steel, aluminium and other metals, as well as several non-metallic materials.
Materials with high thermal conductivity (aluminium, copper and certain other metals) require more power and it is therefore not possible to cut materials of the same thickness as e.g. stainless steel.

Fibre laser cutting represents a substantial modernisation of traditional laser cutters in which the laser is moved through the machine using mirrors. In a fibre machine, the laser runs through a 6 kW cable with an acceleration of up to 2.5 times that of gravity. This means that the machine is much more reliable and has a significantly lower margin of error.
